History

The Cedarville University Chapter of Women of Vision was formed in 2002 by Prof. Cynthia Sutter-Tkel (presently at Baylor U.) and sociology professor Dr. Susan Warner.

Cedarville University is one of 14 WOV chapters in the United States, but it is the only university chapter in the US. What makes this exciting is that WOV sees Cedarville as a prototype of a university chapter.

Chapter Mission and Goals

The goal of the local chapter is to provide education to Cedarville University students about the humanitarian needs of women and children around the world. Those involved in the chapter also want to provide relief to individuals who experience those needs.

WOV incorporates several interest groups which highlight a specific need in the world. These include Acting on AIDS and Broken Chains, which is a group that focuses on the problem of child sex tourism. The university chapter also has a local ministry that has included working with the homeless and with teenage mothers.

Special Events

Awareness events are scheduled each month. These activities are organized by the student officers of WOV and are open to chapter partners, interested students, and members of the University staff and faculty.

  • Fund raising events assist in generating money for Fisheni Village in Zambia which is the sister village of Cedarville University. Additional opportunities exist to develop a relationship with the villagers of Fisheni.
  • Partnership with WOV includes participating in a cross-cultural Bible study and committing either volunteer time or money to the chapter’s events. Students have an option of contributing time, money or both.
